Vegan marmalade hearts

Here in Croatian stores we have this German sweet gingerbread-like heart-shaped cookies filled with marmalade and everyone loves them, so I decided to make a homemade version.

Ingredients are simple and the taste is amazing!

vegan sweet hearts

Ingredients

  • 1 banana

  • 3 tbsp sunflower oil

  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 100 ml plant milk

  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 3 tbsp whole wheat flour

  • 7 g baking powder

  • jam or marmalade of choice

  • 100 g dark chocolate

Preparation

  1. Mash the banana in a large bowl, then add the oil, maple syrup and plant milk and mix.

  2. Add dry ingredients - cinnamon, cocoa, flour and baking powder. Mix again.

  3. Line a medium-sized tray (approx. 20x30 cm) with baking paper and thinly spread the cake mixture on it. Bake for 12-15 minutes at 175 degrees Celsius (depending on the power of your oven).

  4. When it's done, take it out of the pan and let it cool down a bit.

  5. Then cut out 20 hearts in the biscuit with a biscuit or gingerbread cookie cutter in the shape of a heart.

  6. Spread jam richly on half of the hearts and then cover with empty hearts to make small sandwiches.

  7. Melt the chocolate and pour it over each heart. Before serving, let it cool so chocolate can harden.

Notes

If you don't feel like cutting hearts, this cake can also be made into cubes. In that case, cut the baked biscuit in half, spread jam on one half and cover with the other half, and make a classic chocolate glaze.

If, on the other hand, you are cutting hearts - do not throw away the rest of the biscuit that remains after cutting with a mold. Make balls or mix in a bowl with chocolate and eat with a spoon.
