BBQ tempeh ribs

Tempeh is a product similar to tofu, made from fermented soybeans. It is very nutritious and healthy, but its specific taste repels many (including me some time ago). If you too aren't a tempeh fan, try preparing it this way - it shatters all prejudices, really! And it's quite simple.

Allergens: soy | Preparation time: 20 min | Portions: 3 | Complexity: easy

BBQ tempeh

Ingredients

  • block (300 g) of tempeh

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 2-3 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 tbsp ketchup

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp water

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika powder

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar

Preparation

  1. Cut the tempeh in half lengthwise to make two thin slices.

  2. Cut each slice across the width to form sticks.

  3. Salt the sticks and leave to sit for a while.

  4. In a bowl, mix ketchup, soy sauce, water, smoked paprika, pepper and brown sugar to make the sauce.

  5. Heat the oil in a pan, put the sticks to fry and bake them until they're golden on all 4 sides (about 2 minutes per side).

  6. Then remove the sticks from the pan, and pour the sauce over it. Reduce the sauce (cook for 2-3 minutes to thicken) with constant stirring and then return the sticks and cover them well with the sauce.

  7. Remove from heat and serve with salad or your favorite side dish :)

Notes

This recipe was created in collaboration with Annapurna - a small Croatian company that produces tofu, tempeh, nut butters and other vegan products. All products are ecological, organic and very very tasty.
